The Metropolitan Police have released a statement providing an update on the investigation into BBC presenter Huw Edwards, and the claims that he allegedly paid a young person for explicit photos

Yesterday Huw Edwards wife released a statement naming him as the BBC presenter at the centre of the sexual allegations, which was an open secret, and now The Met Police have released a statement.

The Metropolitan Police have said after carrying out an investigation into allegations surrounding a BBC presenter now named as Huw Edwards, no criminality took place.

“Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have now concluded their assessment and have determined there is no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed.

“In reaching this decision, they have spoken to a number of parties including the BBC and the alleged complainant and the alleged complainant’s family, both via another police force. There is no further police action. As such, the Met has advised the BBC it can continue with its internal investigation.

“We are aware of media reporting of further allegations against the same individual. No specific details or information about these allegations have been passed to us and therefore there is no police action at this time.

“Should evidence of criminality or safeguarding issues be identified at any point we would expect matters to be referred to the relevant police force.”

The news that Huw Edwards will not face any criminal charges will be a huge relief to the BBC presenter and his wife Vicky Flind.

In a statement released by Vicky Flind, she said that her husband is suffering from severe mental health issues, but he intends to respond to the allegations when well enough to do so.

After she released the statement, new allegations came to light including allegations from some of his former female colleagues.

Those allegations against Huw Edwards included of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ towards junior BBC staff.

According to a fresh report, one current employee has claimed that Huw Edwards sent inappropriate and suggestive messages, while two former members of staff also made allegations of the presenter sending texts that made them feel uncomfortable.

Lucy Manning, special correspondent at BBC News, said: “A current BBC employee said this year they had received suggestive messages on social media from the presenter.

“BBC News has seen the messages which refer to the BBC staff member’s appearance and they are flirtatious.”

Although Huw Edwards has gained some support, others have demanded answers into why the BBC took so long to take action.
