Protestors oppose plans for nuclear waste disposal site in Lincolnshire
When the shocking news was announced that a site near Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire could be home to a nuclear waste disposal site, those living near Mablethorpe and Skegness as well as surrounding areas were not happy.
Now, a protest has been organised to try and put a stop to the nuclear waste site after news the firm behind the plans are moving forward.
Radioactive Waste Management has confirmed it is in discussion with Lincolnshire County Council about using the former ConocoPhillips Gas Terminal in Theddlethorpe as a Geological Disposal Facility.
According to their experts, the facility will be safe and they also claim it would meet environmental regulations, and could create thousands of jobs. However, those living near the proposed site are not convinced.
Campaigners who want to put a stop to the site plan to demonstrate next week outside Lincolnshire County Council meeting. They hope their demonstration will make it clear that the site is not welcomed in Lincolnshire.
Organisers of the protest are asking for all those that object to the plans to come to join them and send a clear message that Radioactive Waste Management are not welcome in Lincolnshire.
