Lanterns, projections, fire and performances in Gainsborough’s historic quarter to close the Mayflower 400 commemorations.
Illuminate: Gainsborough features digital projections onto the historic Gainsborough Old Hall, and a parade through the town with willow lanterns made by artists, community groups and young people from Gainsborough.
Watch as the night sky becomes illuminated with lanterns created by the communities of Gainsborough inspired by the words of William Bradford – “as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many”.
Bradford, who was from the region of Gainsborough, sailed on the Mayflower to America and went on to become Plymouth Colony’s Governor in America, serving the colony for more than 30 years.
The community-led event commemorates 400 years since the Mayflower voyage, the Pilgrims’ story, and its connection to Gainsborough
