Fuel prices at petrol stations around the Grimsby area have hit a record high
People living and working in Grimsby are shocked at the high petrol prices locally and nationally and are calling on Boris Johnson to act fast to stop the rising fuel costs.
Prices of petrol hit a record high when there was a HGV shortage, but when the problem was fixed petrol did not go down to its normal price. Now, with the Ukraine and Russia war, petrol prices continue to increase.
Motorists in Grimsby believe that petrol companies are taking advantage of the situation. The RAC revealed that profit margins on petrol sales have nearly tripled since 2019 at the big four food retailers.
The RAC is calling on the Government to do more to tackle the rising cost of petrol at the pumps. They want Boris Johnson and the Government to make a temporary emergency cut to the rate of VAT on fuel to provide financial relief to drivers.
On average, motorists are now being forced to pay more than £1.50 a litre to fill up their car. Some motoring experts believe if the price of petrol continues to rise then it could put people out of jobs. They have also said the increase could increase the cost of delivering goods, which the consumer will be forced to pay for.
As a result of the increase in petrol prices in Grimsby and Cleethorpes, more people are now car sharing to try and reduce the cost of getting to and from work.
