  • Rishi Sunak Is Not Wanted As The Next Prime Minister according to people in Scunthorpe, Skegness, Boston, and Lincoln

With only two people left in the race to become the new Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party, we decided to launch a poll to find out who people wanted to replace Boris Johnson.

We asked one thousand people to take part in the poll in Skegness, Scunthorpe, Lincoln, Grimsby, and Boston Lincolnshire, and the results were not surprising.

Although most of the people we spoke to said none of the Conservative MPs who entered the race to become Prime Minister could be trusted, 87% said they did not want to see Rishi Sunak replace Boris Johnson.

The overall majority said Rishi Sunak was no better than Boris Johnson. Many of those people we spoke to questioned how trustworthy Rishi Sunak is while other people said they could not trust someone who stabbed their boss in the back.

Tony Ward from Manchester who was visiting Skegness with his family for a holiday said, “How can Rishi Sunak get us out of the cost-of-living crisis when he is a multi-millionaire and has no clue about the real world. Let’s face it, a man who wears a £3,500 suit has no clue the troubles people are going through.”

In 2020 Rishi Sunak claimed he had no insisted he has no ambition to become Prime Minister, but in December 2021 he registered a domain name that he used to announce his intention to run to become the leader of the Conservative party. Now, the ex-chancellor has insisted that he is not too rich to be Tory leader and prime minister, which many of those we spoke to said was laughable.

Sarah Reed from Boston, Lincolnshire said Rishi Sunak is no more trustworthy than Boris Johnson. She explained how she could not trust a man who hid his wife’s tax affairs.

While many MPs are calling for taxes to be cut to fight the cost-of-living crisis, Rishi Sunak has said he will not rush into cutting taxes. He has said he will only look at cutting taxes when inflation is down, and public finances are repaired.

His policies may have gone down well with some of his fellow MPs but the people we spoke to, they were less than impressed.

Tony Wilkinson from Scunthorpe said taxes need to be cut now and more is needed to be done to fight the cost of living, while Susan Miles from Liverpool who was visiting family in Scunthorpe said Rishi Sunak is not interested in what happens in the north of England or the working class.

Rishi Sunak Key policies include:

Cut taxes when inflation is down, and public finances are repaired

Plough on with the planned rise to 25 per cent corporation tax

Keep the Rwanda immigration policy to cut small boats crossings

Keep defence spending at current levels with no increase

While most of the people we spoke to did not want to see Rishi Sunak become Prime Minister, LIZ Truss was seen as a more favourable option. Although the majority of those that we spoke to said Lis Truss was a more preferred option and more trustworthy than Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, 81% said they wanted a General Election now.

The general opinion is, now that Boris Johnson has resigned it should be up to the voters who they wanted as their next Prime Minister. Although a snap General Election is unlikely to happen, if a General Election did happen before Christmas, it does not mean Labour would be voted in.

In a recent poll, we found that Sir Keir Rodney Starmer was not the right man to become Prime Minster as he lacks vision and trust. Many Labour voters we spoke to said he was not the right man for the job, and it left them confused if they should vote for or against Labour at the next General Election.

Angela Rayner is seen as the ideal person to take Labour into the next General Election, and according to loyal labour voters, if she was the leader then Labour would have a real chance of winning a landslide.
