United Lincolnshire Hospitals Letting Down Patients

Published on

Lincolnshire Hospital A&E Wait Times Second Worst In The Country

In March 2024 United Lincolnshire Hospitals which covers hospitals in Grantham, Boston, Skegness, Louth, and Lincoln had the worst wait times in the country according to a new report.

Once again patients are being let down by the NHS under United Lincolnshire Hospitals watch as reports have found that patients visiting the A&E in March had to wait longer than most other people in the country.

Lincolnshire Hospitals run by United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust had the second-worst waiting time in the country for March. The data from NHS England found that 65 per cent of patients visiting a hospital in Lincolnshire had to wait longer than four hours.

The only other trust which had a longer waiting time than hospitals in Lincolnshire was University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Their hospitals had a waiting time of 65.5 per cent.

A Lincolnshire hospital spokesperson has apologised to patients for the extra waiting times. They explained that staff are working hard to improve the situation.

They said: “Our Trust, like many others in the country, is continuing to experience significant demand for our urgent and emergency care services.

“We are working with colleagues across our A&Es and Urgent Treatment Centres to ensure that patients are seen as quickly as possible in the right place for the care they require. Many of those attending our A&Es have more complex needs and require further care in our hospitals, meaning there is also a longer wait time for beds for new patients who need to be admitted.

Lincolnshire Hospitals A&E Waiting Times Second Highest In The Country

“We are sorry to those who have experienced longer waits but would like to reassure that our clinical teams continue to work tirelessly to ensure those who need immediate emergency care are able to be seen. Work is ongoing with our Lincolnshire system partners to ensure patients can access care in the right place and at the right time, including alternative services outside of the hospital.

“Our advice to the public is that if you need help and it’s not a 999 emergency, use alternative services including your GP, local pharmacy, or NHS 111 online or over the telephone for clinical advice, assessment, and for direction to the most appropriate services for your treatment.”

Lincolnshire A&E waiting times highest in the country

When Rishi Sunak took over as Prime Minister, he promised that he would be tackling the serious NHS problem, but like most of his promises, he has failed. The NHS has become an embarrassment to the UK with more people dying waiting to be seen and waiting for an ambulance than ever before.

The report found that four out of every ten attendances to A&E departments in England in March had to wait more than four hours. There have been cases where people have had to wait more than 24 hours to be transferred from A&E to a bed which includes in Grimsby and Scunthorpe under Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

It is not just the people in Lincolnshire who are being let down by the NHS, it is most of the country. Sadly, it seems things will not get better in the near- or long-term future until a Labour Prime Minister or a Conservative Prime minister puts their words into action.
