X Factor star Matt Cardle has explained how shocked he was after needing police protection when he went out shopping. The singer explained that he needed a charger for his mobile phone but when he went out shopping he was shocked to be mobbed by a load of fans. Matt Cardle who music sources are predicting could be the biggest winner of The X Factor even beating Leona Lewis explained that police had to come to his rescue after fans went mental.

The X Factor winner explained that he went to a shop to buy a mobile phone charger when he was spotted by loads of fans. Matt said that he became scared when he was surrounded by fans and ended up being put in the back of a police van and taken out of town to safety.

He said to his Twitter fans: “Just had to be taken from town to my car in a police van,” he wrote. “Only meant to get a charger!”

He added: “It was totally mental – the last thing I expected.”

Simon Cowell has demanded that Matt uses security when he goes out but Matt has refused and has told his boss that he wants to be a normal person and be accessible to his fans.
