Benidorm Bar Owners Worried About Their Business

Bar Owners In Benidorm Are Worried That Fewer Hen and Stag Parties Will Visit The Spanish Resort

Benidorm has become one of the best-known Spanish resorts for hen and stag parties, but that could be affected by new plans to make it a more family-oriented resort.

After it was reported Benidorm police will crack down on badly behaved Brits and bring in measures to clean up the popular Spanish resort, bar owners have now become worried.

Benidorm which has been a favourite with stag and hen parties and young people has seen some serious changes over the past few years. These changes are aimed at deterring stag and hen parties and instead attract family holidaymakers.

The local council in Benidorm has brought in anti-social behaviour rules with the police being told they must come down hard on those that break the rules. These rules include not being allowed to walk around Benidorm half naked and for those walking around the resort to be on their best behaviour.

The crackdown on stags hen parties and badly behaved Brits has been tried before and has always failed. Now the council is determined to crackdown on badly behaved Brits visiting Benidorm. Now, the police can often be seen searching men and women randomly, but although some are pleased, a lot of bar owners are concerned this could be a risk to their businesses.

Some Bar Owners have said these latest measures could seriously damage the future of their bars. It is not just the bar owners who are concerned, those who work in them feel if young people stop coming then it will result in job losses. One woman explained bar work is the only real kind of work available in Benidorm.

She said: “I have lived here for over ten years and finding a stable job is nearly impossible. If hen and stag parties stop coming, then bar owners will need less staff which will mean a lot of people being forced to go back to the UK.”

A bar owner who did not want to be named told Lincolnshire News Today there has already been a decline in the number of stag and hen parties that visit Benidorm.

“Most bars rely on young people. Young people are the ones that spend money, families tend to stay in their all-inclusive hotels. If the council drives young people away and forces them to another resort then there will be no need for all the bars Benidorm currently has. I for one would struggle.”

Bar owners in Benidorm are also concerned about what is happening in Ibiza and Majorca. The alcohol ban in Ibiza and Majorca aims are stop the rowdy behaviour that local family businesses and residents have been complaining about for years.

If the alcohol ban goes further and forces clubs and pubs to close early and those rules come to Benidorm, then it could force a lot of businesses to close. Time will tell if the alcohol ban works and if the measures by the local Benidorm council will have any effect on pubs and clubs.
