New Scunthorpe Police Station Approved

The council has approved plans for a new police station in Scunthorpe costing £13.8m

North Lincolnshire Council has approved the plans for a new police station in Scunthorpe. Situated on the town’s former market site, the three-story building received approval after a 10-month review process that addressed noise concerns. There’s a restriction on siren use in the adjacent parking lot, limited to between 07:00 and 23:00.

The new station will accommodate up to 250 Humberside Police staff, though only 80 personnel will be present at any one time. The facilities will feature an interview room, a gym, a kitchen, rest areas, and a combination of open-plan and private offices. However, it will not include a custody suite, so individuals detained in Scunthorpe will be transported to cells in nearby stations.

Scunthorpe Police Station Will Cost £13.8m

The car park, facing Home Street, will provide over 100 spaces, with 60 reserved for police staff. This new station is set to replace the current one on Corporation Street, which will be transferred to the ownership of North Lincolnshire Council along with the neighbouring Magistrates’ Court and Shelford House. In return, Humberside Police will take ownership of the new station site.

Adjustments will be made to the roads surrounding the building; specifically, the Chapel Street one-way system will be modified to allow emergency vehicles to turn both left and right. Initially estimated to cost £13.8 million, the project includes an extension on the west side connected to the nearly finished enterprise and innovation hub, known as Project Anchor. Construction is projected to last 18 months.
