A man from Scunthorpe who was wanted by police has been sentenced to prison after a rooftop standoff
A man wanted by police, Kyle Ferguson, 30, has been sentenced to nine years and 10 months in prison after climbing onto a roof and hurling bricks and tiles at police officers, leading to a five-hour standoff on May 30 in Coventry Close, Scunthorpe.
During the standoff, an object identified as a firearm and ammunition fell from the roof. Ferguson eventually descended and was arrested, though he continued to threaten the officers, according to Humberside Police.
Resident of Lambourne Rise in Scunthorpe, Ferguson pleaded guilty to charges including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a prohibited weapon, affray, burglary, and theft. He received his sentence at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday.
Detective Constable Scott Belton remarked, “Ferguson intended to cause maximum disruption that day. His actions showed a complete disregard for the local community, the property damage, and the wider public who were inevitably impacted by his reckless behavior.
Fortunately, no officers were injured, but valuable police time was wasted that could have been used for other emergencies. The discovery of a loaded firearm in Ferguson’s possession is alarming, and I am relieved it was removed from our streets before it could cause serious harm.”
