Lincolnshire Norovirus Warning From The NHS

The NHS are warning people affected by Norovirus to stay at home and not to visit hospitals in Skegness, Lincoln, Grimsby, Louth, and Scunthorpe.

People affected by norovirus are being advised to “stay home” following a surge in case numbers in the two weeks preceding December 8, as shown by the latest data.

Earlier this month, NHS officials reported that thousands of adult hospital beds had been “closed” due to outbreaks of diarrhoea and vomiting illnesses, including norovirus. They have strongly advised the public to refrain from visiting healthcare facilities if they exhibit these symptoms.

According to an update from the official NHS X account on Friday, norovirus is a stomach bug that results in diarrhoea and vomiting. Although it can be very uncomfortable, it usually resolves within about 2 days. The guidance suggests staying home, resting, and drinking plenty of fluids if affected.

Additional guidance through a provided link details the main symptoms: feeling sick, vomiting, and diarrhoea. The NHS also mentions that sufferers might experience a high temperature, headaches, and aching arms and legs. Symptoms typically appear suddenly, one to two days post-infection.

The advice further emphasizes avoiding work or school until being symptom-free for at least 48 hours, as this is the peak contagion period. People are also advised to steer clear of hospitals and care homes during this time.

The best defence against spreading the virus is frequent handwashing with soap and water, since alcohol hand gels do not eliminate norovirus. While the symptoms can be unpleasant, they are usually manageable at home with rest and ample fluids.

If concerns arise about a baby under one year old, if a child ceases breastfeeding or bottle feeding while ill, if a child under five shows signs of dehydration, if signs of dehydration persist after using oral rehydration sachets, if persistent vomiting prevents fluid intake, if there is bloody diarrhoea or bleeding from the bottom, or if diarrhoea persists for more than seven days or vomiting for more than two days, you should contact 111.

People with norovirus are being advised to stay away from hospital in Lincolnshire including Grimsby hospital.
