Pandemic expert has said the next wave could be more deadly than previous Coronavirus waves
A leading expert has said the next pandemic could be much worse than previous waves. Dame Kate Bingham, the former head of the vaccine taskforce has said it could beat the vaccines being rolled out.
Grantham, Skegness, Boston, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, and Bourne like the rest of Lincolnshire has already witnessed an increase in COVID cases. So, Dame Kate latest outlook on the pandemic will cause worry for those living in the Lincolnshire area.
She told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the pandemic is still a serious threat. And she also mentioned that the previous waves we went through could have been much more serious.
“We do invest in our defence forces; we do recognise it’s important to look around the world and develop intelligence to plan for all sorts of different scenarios when it comes to our national defence.”
She added: “This pandemic, devastating how it was, could have been a lot worse.
“It could have been more lethal – it could have been a virus that mutates much more rapidly, which means you can’t develop vaccines.
“So, this is not the time to sit back on our laurels.
“This is the time to recognise that pandemic threats are as serious as defence threats and should be invested and supported in the same way.”
A lot of experts have previously mentioned that they did not understand why Boris Johnson got rid of so many COVID rules. While others have questioned why the borders have been fully opened while many other countries have a serious COVID problem.
