Rapper Digga D Faces Drug Charges in Lincoln Court
London rapper Digga D’s appearance in Lincoln Magistrates Court on drug-related charges has shocked his fans.
London rapper Digga D, whose real name is Rhys Herbert, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court on Thursday, facing charges related to drug dealing.
The 23-year-old artist was arrested in a police raid in Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln, and remains in custody. The case has garnered significant attention due to Digga D’s large following on Instagram, where he live-streamed the police raid to over 1.4 million followers.
Digga D was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, February 21, 2024, after multiple police vehicles, along with police dogs and drones, arrived at an address in Bracebridge Heath.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. Following his arrest, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that he has been charged with being concerned in the supply of cannabis and fraudulent evasion of the prohibition of importation.
During his appearance at Lincoln Magistrates Court, Digga D, wearing a grey top and trousers, stood behind the glass and remained silent throughout the proceedings.
His barrister, Mr Thompson, presented the defence’s case, while Digga D confirmed his identity but did not indicate a plea to the charges.
The bench at Lincoln Magistrates Court deliberated on the case and made the decision to remand Digga D into custody based on two main factors.
Firstly, they considered his previous offenses while on bail, and secondly, they believed that his public profile could potentially interfere with witnesses. The court scheduled a plea and trial preparation hearing for March 25, 2024, at Lincoln Crown Court.
Eyewitnesses claim that the police raid lasted approximately two hours as some individuals inside the house refused to come out.
Officers carried out the raid under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. Although the live stream video of the raid is no longer available on Instagram, copies have been shared on other platforms like Twitter. In the video, Digga D can be heard questioning the police and stating that he is on the floor.
Digga D has had previous encounters with the law, including being sentenced to two-and-a-half years for his involvement in a machete brawl in West London in 2020.
During another period of incarceration, he was reportedly stabbed in the eye with a blade made from a tuna can. Additionally, he was placed under a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) relating to his music videos and lyrics. The CBO, which imposes certain conditions, is expected to remain in effect until 2025.
