Great Things To Do In Puglia

Things To Do in Puglia, Italy. Puglia, is a southern region that forms the heel of Italy’s boot. The stunning beaches, whitewashed hill towns, with hundreds of kilometres of a stunning Mediterranean coastline, have become a huge favourite with British holidaymakers.

The Puglia region stretches over 19,300 square kilometres. 800 of that is a stunning coastline. The coastline is like no other coastline in the world. It is punctuated with limestone cliffs, quant towns, and national parks. Although Puglia, Italy attracts people from all over the world looking for great food, relaxation, and a wonderful holiday, all in all the Italians have managed to keep it a bit of a secret. You can expect to see parts of Puglia tourist free.

The popular Puglia, Italy holiday destination is all about taking in the views and explore the Baroque churches, vineyards and undisturbed sandy beaches. There is no part of this popular holiday destination that is the same.

I have put together a list of Things To Do in Puglia, Italy so you can explore this beautiful region.

Gargano, Italy

Gargano, Italy is one of the most overlooked parts of Southern Italian region of Puglia. However, it can be difficult to reach. If you only have a day available, then you should visit Gargano another time and look at other things to do in Puglia.

If you have a few days to spare, then Gargano is worthy a visit. It is a very beautiful place surrounded by stunning scenery. Apart from the seaside resorts, most of Gargano is a national park which is mostly unspoilt.

In the summer, Gargano is a popular holiday spot for Italians, but out of season the beaches, forests, and hill towns are less crowded. The dramatic coastline, colourful sea caves, and long sandy beaches really does make it stand out.

Gargano is well known for its fishing villages, rugged cliffs, and picturesque coves. One place that is worthy a visit is the medieval village of Vieste. It is like going back in time with its white houses, narrow streets, and 13th century castle.

I do recommend when visiting Gargano to take a trip to Mattinata beach.

Salento, Italy

Things To Do In Puglia

The next destination on our Puglia travel guide is Salento. This area of Puglia, Italy is unspoilt and is the southernmost area of Puglia. This enchanted area is known for its stony olive groves, and amazing cuisine, and music which is influenced by its Greek past.

Salento, Italy with its wild beaches untouched by the mass tourism industry is very affordable. No matter where you shop, or stay, or go out to eat, it’s much cheaper than most parts of Italy. Although Salento is known for its beaches such as Torre Lapillo beach, there are also some fascinating towns to explore.

Three recommended towns to explore is Otranto, Specchia and Presicce. If you visit in the summer, then you can experience the sagra di paese (a village festival).

There are lots of things to do in Salento, Italy, which include:

Centro Storico di Gallipoli

Centro Storico Otranto

Centro Storico, Lecce

Bahia Porto Cesareo

Togo Bay Beach

Centro Storico

Castello Aragonese

Tempio di San Giovanni al Sepolcro

The most famous town to visit in the Itria Valley is Alberobello. The trulli houses, conical rooftops and charming cobblestone alleys make this town stand out.

Visiting Trulli valley is like going back in time and seeing the real Italy.

Ostuni, Italy

Ostuni is a stunning city in Italy’s Apulia region. It’s one of the best places in Puglia to visit with its cathedral and whitewashed old town. The popular Italian city which is 8km from the Adriatic Sea extends across three hills and is surrounded by olive groves.

Those that visit Ostuni instantly fall in love with the stunning views. There is lots to do and see in Ostuni. While walking through

the maze of old alleys you will find cafes, traditional craftsmanship shops, and lovely restaurants to experience real Italian food.

Ostuni is a city for historians, romantics, and those that want to experience a wonderful environment overlooking the ocean. It is a great place to visit anytime of the year, but during the summer is when it really blossoms, and this is the time of the year that the tourist flock to the beautiful city of Ostuni.

Brindisi, Italy

For those visiting Italy and wanting things to do In Puglia then how about a trip to Brindisi. For many years, Brindisi has been the main port of the Indian Mail that comes from London to Bombay. Now, it’s recognized as a UNESCO heritage site.

Brindisi, which during WW2 served as the temporary capital of Italy has a population of over 88,000. The economy relies on chemical processing, electrical generation, agriculture, commercial port activities, and of course tourism.

The waterfront is one of the main attractions of Brindisi, with its restaurants that produce stunning meals using fresh local food. The port area is a great place to explore with some stunning views.

If you love history and love stunning structures, then you can enjoy Castello Alfonsino and the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Casale. For romantics, its one of the best places to see in Puglia.
