If the world is changing for the better, one of the success stories is that there is a bigger platform for discussing complex issues. Everything from racial and gender rights to misogyny, bullying, and abuse is being talked about in a way they never have before. Sadly, it is still not regularly and openly enough, but at least things seem to be moving in the right direction, however slowly.
Yvonne Sandomir is one of the people helping to make a difference in this area. Her debut book, The Invisible Girl: A Memoir, openly shares her recollections of the childhood trauma, abuse, and violence she was subjected to from age four. It aimed to help others realize that they are not alone and to help them find the path forward to a better life.
Her logical next step was the creation of the podcast Survivor Strong, this time a platform that allowed others to share their own stories with the world, experiences, and traumas, as well as highlighting the light at the end of the tunnel that isn’t always visible.
The podcast is already proving to be an effective awareness-rising tool and a safe space from which weekly guests can openly and candidly tell their stories. In short, it is a beacon of hope in an often dark world.
