Police officers are investigating after a gill was shot near Metheringham Quarry. Officers have said they will track down the person or people who are shooting wild birds.
Lincolnshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team took action after a great black-backed gull was discovered with injuries near the quarry on December 6 and brought to an animal rescue center. An x-ray revealed the gull had been shot, containing multiple pellets, leading to a broken wing and difficulty standing. The Wild Things Rescue charity is covering the costs of care and x-rays.
Detective Constable Flint from the Rural Crime Action Team stated that it is illegal to kill or injure wild birds protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
“Anyone found committing offences against wild birds in our county will receive our full attention and, where sufficient evidence exists, will be brought to court.”
