In 2021, a poll found that 7 out of 10 Labour voters felt he was not the right man for the job and instead thought Andy Burnham would make a better Labour leader and Prime Minister.

The Manchester Mayor is like Marmite, you either like him or hate him, there isn’t a between. But, one thing is for sure, he has more backbone than Keir Starmer and does not sit on the fence on important matters.

Keir Starmer assumed the position of Labour Party leader in 2020 with high hopes of revitalizing the party after a period of internal turmoil. However, his leadership has faced criticism from both within the party and the general public.

There have been critics about his leadership which includes not answering important questions, changing his mind on important every two minutes, and not showing the unions enough support.

Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has emerged as a potential alternative to Keir Starmer. He was always classed as a strong leader as an MP and now as a mayor of Manchester, he has gained the respect of those in the north and some of those in the south.

One of the primary challenges for the Labour Party is not only the lack of trust in Keir Starmer but also his struggle with reconnecting with the broader electorate.

As the party strives to regain its relevance and appeal, the Labour Party must carefully consider the attributes and qualities necessary in a leader who can bridge the gap between the party and the public. However, many believe that Keir Starmer does not have those qualities.

In2Town Today News has spoken privately to some Labour MPs, and they agree that Keir Starmer does not have what it takes to be a trusted and viable Prime Minister. However, they have said that it would be suicide to have a new leadership campaign so close to a General Election, especially when Labour looks like they will win.

Andy Burnham is not the only person that voters and some MPs believe would be a better leader than Keir Starmer. Angela Rayner has also been described as a trusted and better leader than Keir Starmer.

There is no question in Labour voter’s mind that Keir Starmer will be the next Prime Minister, the question is, for how long, and when will there be a new leadership challenge?
