Voters do not know what Keir Starmer stands for
In a shocking but not surprising local election defeat for the Tories where the party lost more than 1,000 council seats, Keir Starmer believes he will be the next Prime Minster. However, Keir Starmer is being warned not to be too confident about winning the next General Election.
While Keir Starmer has been gloating about making history and sending a clear message to Rishi Sunak that the voters no longer trust the Tory party, the Labour Leader has been told there is lots of work to be done. An insider within the Labour Party has told In2town News Today that those around Keir Starmer want him to tone down his public belief that he will be the next Prime Minister.
The Labour party have many obstacles to overcome to win the next General Election with the biggest being to convince the voter to trust Keir Starmer. The big problem that faces Keir Starmer is many loyal Labour voters don’t trust or like him, while other voters don’t have a clue what he stands for.
Keir Starmer has been called a man with no vision while others have called him a man that changes his mind every two minutes. His pledge to scrap tuition fees is a prime example of how many times the Labour Leader changes his mind. He has now decided that if he becomes Prime Minister, he will not scrap tuition fees. This is one of the reasons why Keir Starmer could have egg on his face with his belief he will become the next Prime Minster.
The Labour leader’s popularity levels have shown “only modest improvement”, according to polling by YouGov to mark his third anniversary as leader. Keir Starmer became leader of the Labour Party in 2020 and has struggled to get voters to trust him. Only one in five people who took part in the poll believe Keir Starmer has been a great leader. This could cause serious problems for the Labour Party at the next General Election.
Although the Labour Party won more than 1,000 seats, the shock of the local elections was the failure to win back North East Lincolnshire Council which covers areas that include Cleethorpes and Grimsby. It was hoped that Labour could finally win control of Boston council, but they failed to do so. This is a clear message that Labour still has a lot of work to do.
Many voters believe that if Labour want to win the next General Election then Keir Starmer needs to resign and let Angela Rayner become leader. The Deputy Leader is trusted and liked more by Labour and undecided voters than Keir Starmer.
Another huge stumbling block to stop Keir Starmer becoming the next Prime Minister is if Rishi Sunak resigns. After the huge embarrassment at the local council elections, many Conservative MPs who are worried about losing their seats at the next General Election would like Rishi Sunak to resign. If that does happen, due to the lack of trust in the current Labour leader, it could mean the Conservative Party have a serious chance of winning the next General Election and retaining power.
If Keir Starmer fails to resign, and Rishi Sunak stays on as Prime Minster then it could result in one of the most interesting General Elections in our time. Labour may be forced to form a coalition to win power, something that Keir Starmer is not keen on.
