Scunthorpe Takeaway Fined £3.5k

  • A Cockroach-infested takeaway in Scunthorpe has been fined £3.5k after health inspectors found cockroaches on premises

A Scunthorpe Takeaway owner has been fined almost £3,500 after North Lincolnshire Council Health inspectors visited the premises and found cockroaches crawling around the premises.

Health inspectors who visited Shawarma Town on Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe said the premises were vastly unhygienic.

Mr S Rashid, the owner of Shawarma Town was ordered to pay £3,437 in fines and costs by Grimsby Magistrates’ Court.

Health Inspectors found Mr S Rashid failed to ensure adequate procedures were in place to control pests. They also found that he failed to ensure articles and equipment that come into contact with food were cleaned and disinfected. Grimsby Magistrate Court also heard how the owner of Shawarma Town did not protect food against dangerous contamination.

The premises has since been reopened under a different owner after North Lincolnshire Council carried out a thorough inspection to make sure the hygiene standards had improved

A spokesman for North Lincolnshire Council said that the fine should be a warning to all those business owners in North Lincolnshire who do not comply with the law and put customers health at risk.
