Petition Launched For A52 speed cameras after crash

Annalise Smith calls for new speed cameras to be installed on the A52 to stop speeding drivers

A woman has started a petition to install speed cameras on the A52 near Skegness following a fatal collision involving a moped rider. Last Saturday, a 23-year-old man tragically lost his life when his Zontes Firefly 125cc moped crashed head-on with a Ford C-Max and a Nissan Micra at Croft Bank around 20:45 GMT.

Annalise Smith, a local resident near the crash site, is calling for a average speed check camera to be installed aimed at reducing accident rates. Lincolnshire Police reported that a 19-year-old, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released under investigation.

New A52 Speed Cameras Needed To Stop Speeding Drivers

Ms. Smith expressed her motivation for starting the petition after learning about the accident, stating, “Losing a life is always tragic, but it feels even more so close to Christmas.” As a mother of three, she added, “My biggest fear is one of my own children being involved in an accident.”

Discussing the road conditions, the 24-year-old observed: “The road becomes increasingly treacherous with bends as you approach Skegness, and people’s impatience often leads to reckless driving. While nothing can entirely eliminate dangerous driving, installing an average speed check camera from Wainfleet to Skegness, where the speed limit drops from 50mph to 30mph, would be a sensible measure.”

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Ms. Smith noted that at least seven lives have been claimed on this stretch of road since June 2021. She questioned, “How many more lives need to be lost? How much more heartbreak must occur before action is taken?”

It is not just Annalise Smith who is worried about speeding drivers traveling and around Skegness. A lot of local people have complained about speeding tourists ignoring the speed limits down the country lanes.

Ms. Smith petition has garnered over 470 signatures thus far, and local council members have committed to meeting with highways officials in the new year to address these concerns.
