- Bourne leisure has put their Butlins brand up for auction
The people of Skegness are shocked after it was revealed that Bourne Leisure has put their Butlins brand up for sale.
According to reports, Butlins is set to be sold at auction by its parent company.
Butlins, which is one of the biggest names in UK holidays has sites in Skegness, Bognor Regis, and Minehead.
Bourne Leisure which only less than a year ago sold majority shares to Blackstone, a global investment business, has selected investment companies to be part of the auction process.
There is no current indication on what price tag Bourne Leisure has put on Butlins, but with such a huge reputation and popularity it will not be cheap.
Bourne Leisure are refusing to make any comment about the auction or the value of Butlins.
The sale has come as a huge shock to those living in Skegness which is home to the first Butlins holiday camp that was opened in 1936.
Butlins is an important brand in the Skegness tourism industry and some businesses in Skegness are now worried what the new owners will do with the holiday park.
This is not the only holiday company that is rumoured to be put up for auction. Parkdean which also have a holiday park in Skegness is set to be put up for auction.
