SAGE Expert is confident that Lincolnshire and the rest of the UK will not go into lockdown
According to Professor Neil Ferguson a SAGE Expert, we have nothing to fear about Lincolnshire going into Lockdown over Christmas.
While many of those living in Greater Lincolnshire including Sleaford, Boston, Skegness, Scunthorpe, and Grantham are concerned that Christmas could be cancelled, that will not happen says Professor Neil Ferguson.
Although in some areas of Lincolnshire and the UK COVID cases continue to rise, and Europe is reporting a huge increase in deaths and COVID cases, the UK will avoid a ‘catastrophic’ winter wave
Professor Neil Ferguson has said we have learned many lessons from the first lockdown. He also went onto say that he hopes we can “avoid” returning to social distancing restrictions this winter.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I think it is unlikely we will get anything close to what we had last year, that catastrophic winter wave.
“We might see slow increases as we did in October, for instance, but not anything as rapid as we saw last year.
“We can’t be complacent, but at the moment I don’t think we’ll be in a situation the Netherlands is coming into where they really do need to get on top of rising case numbers using social distancing.
“I very much hope we can avoid that in this country.”
Professor Neil Ferguson is in agreement with other experts who believe that once the over 50s and vulnerable have received their COVID booster jabs, the rest of the population should also receive it.
Although the SAGE Expert believes we will avoid another lockdown, some of those living in Lincolnshire believe another lockdown could be a good idea.
Some people believe that another short lockdown could give the NHS enough breathing space while more people receive the booster jab.
