New York Celebrates Record Number Of Tourists

New York City, one of the popular holiday destinations for UK holidaymakers is today celebrating the announcement a record 62.8 million tourists visited the city that never sleeps in 2017. This is an increase of 2.3 million compared to 2016.

Some travel experts in the USA included NYC & Co. predicted a fall in tourists, but the figures released by the city’s tourism bureau has shown that New York City is still a much-loved holiday destination for Americans and International travellers.

79.1 per cent of those that visited New York City came from the United States, while 13.1 million came from countries that included Australia, the UK, Spain, and Canada. This set a new record for the number of visitors who travelled to New York from outside the United States.

According to NYC & Co., for the third year running the majority of visitors from outside of the United States came from the United Kingdom. China came in second and Canada came in third.

Fred Dixon, president and chief executive of NYC & Co., did predict a drop in the number of people who would visit New York City. According to a statement he made a year ago, he did expect a drop of 300,000 tourists.

Travel experts felt the New president Donald Trump, would cause a decline in the number of people who would want to visit New York City. However, that has not been the case.

“It’s difficult to explain the role of politics,” Dixon said. “I think people are becoming numb to everything in the news every day. For international travellers, if there’s one thing we’ve learned, travel is almost a right. We think they’re looking beyond the politics.” He is forecasting that the upward trend will continue this year, at least for New York City, with a 3.7 percent increase in visitors, for another record total of 65.1 million.

According to travel experts in the New York, they expect to see 2018 become another record year.
